RFID for Check-in/Check-out: Nox Alarm

In the Nox Check-in/Check-out system, if an asset tagged with RFID exits a room without permission, the alarm will sound.  The alarm literally starts to sound as soon as the asset tag gets in view of the reader.  In the picture below, you see a person trying to leave the room with a tagged laptop in the bag.  This person does not have a userbadge, therefore he does not have permission, making the alarm sound immediately!

Inside SimplyRFiD's NoxCore: Check-in/Check-out System

Here is a look at something we like to call "CICO" (check-in/check-out).  This picture is a combined screenshot of both, NoxCore accessed from ones computer and the Nox Kiosk.

On the left is the screenshot of NoxCore, displaying the video feed and the most recent tags in view.  If you look hard enough at the picture, you can see the person in the doorway has a user badge around his neck and that he is holding a bag in his hand.  Inside that bag is a Dell Laptop, tagged with an RFID tag.  As you can see in the right screenshot, user "ERIC PARIS" is present and so is the "Dell Laptop" inside the bag.  As you can also see, there is a 24 digit RFID value that is also present on the tag, but because we already associated this item as "Dell Laptop", the computer system automatically recognizes this, making it very easy to check-in/check-out an item.

Check into tomorrows blog to see what happens if this item were to leave the room without permission, setting off an alarm!

RFID To Speed Up The Check-In/Check-Out Process

Now days, it is pretty much essential to know where your assets are and who is responsible for them.  RFID works wonders compared to the antiquated method of pen & paper tracking.

Checkincheckout
With an RFID check-in/check-out system, assets can be automatically checked-in/checked-out when the employee crosses the read points (normally doorways) with an asset in hand.  The RFID tag on the asset is then associated with the employee’s RFID badge, ultimately resulting in an automated electronic record of who has what asset.

RFID has special advantages vs the antiquated pen & paper methods, as RFID provides instant information about "Who, What, When, Where".

Who

  • RFID readers at entrances/exits tell you exactly Who entered the room and Who checked-in/checked-out each asset. (awesome for chain-of-custody)
  • Put in a camera or two and you have a video feed displaying who took the asset.   So when an asset enters/exits the room, the video feed will automatically capture the doorway, providing video evidence of who took the asset.  This video also comes in handy

What

  • With RFID, you are instantly provided with information about What the asset is (i.e. Asset Name, Age, Date Last Accessed).  This works for both check-in and check-out, automating the process, making it much simpler than taking the time/effort to look at each item and writing down all 16 digits of the serial number)

When

  • At the exact time an employee enters/exits a room, the RFID badge is automatically read and tells the database that "John Doe" entered the room at 11:14am and that he left the room with "File Folder 123A" at 11:17am.

Where

  • When an asset leaves "Room 15" at 11:17am headed for the "Examination Room", you can be assured that when that asset enters "Examination Room", it will register on the electronic database, telling you exactly Where the asset is at all times (within a network).
