Girl Scout Cookies: Taking Security Seriously with RFID
Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:11PM We've been waiting for this day for over a month -- and it's arrived! Dozens of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies are loose in our office. Whose Tagalongs do you have? We know!
We tagged a few boxes of them to keep it straight -- but, also to demonstrate some common tagging prolems.
- We used our Nox-2 RFID tag for this. Note that it's 4" wide which makes a problem with tagging Do-si-dos. We had to place it length-wise on the box to prevent going too long/past the box edge. A smaller tag would be a better choice and some of the latest Impinj Monza chips can do in 3" sized tags what used to take 4" (of antenna).
- On the Tagalongs we covered the picture of the product. That's not so great for marketing -- so, on the second box we placed it over a seam on the box.
Of course, these are on the outside of the boxes. We could have easily placed them on the inside and they would be invisible but still keep track of our cookies. We have a full length video of 'tracking with RFID' on YouTube.
