Stress Testing RFID on metal, heat, water, ...

 

'Will it survive?' -- That's the idea behind our latest video series of RFID tag tests.  We demonstrate our Nox-tm4 Metal Mount RFID tag going through a series of trials showing the durability and capability of RFID in heat, water, pressure, and directly on metal. The Nox-tm4 changes everything about what RFID is capable of doing and 'where' it can do it.  All at a very reasonable price.

Our first video is the oven bake.  We placed the tag on metal, in an oven and baked for 10 minutes @ 400F.  We would have baked it longer...  But, we had some technical difficulties with the materials we used to tag starting a small kitchen fire...  Take a look here.  

 

 

Other notes:
While the videos are for fun, we did more elaborate testing, and the spoiler results are below.

 

- Temperature Test: 392F for 6 hours in hot oil, -40F for 24 hours
- Nox-TM Series RFID tags are IP68 Rated
- Read Range: 4' to 15' - Nox-tm4 for a 1.5" tag.  Other Nox-TM sizes available with massive 30' read ranges and high temperature, on metal resistance.

 

Notes on Testing:
We still get calls saying our read range benchmarks are 'long'. Yes, they are.  It's because we use THE BEST RFID readers and antennas on the market. The reader: The ThingMagic Mercury 5 reader.  Email me if you want to know the antenna -- we need some secrets...

 

For a comparison of read ranges, on the Nox-tm4:
- Impinj Speedway: 3' any orientation, - 6' optimal.
- Motorola/Symbol XR440: 3' any orientation, 5' optimal.

 

Nox-tmX Variations:
Nox-TM4 -- Our smallest RFID Metal Mount. Just 1.5".
Nox-TM7 -- A thinner version of our tag -- but quite a bit larger.
Nox-TM9 -- A full sized tag.  50% more read range.
Nox-TM15 -- Massive read range requirements -- in a massive size...
